Introduction: Tuberculosis affects populations living in poverty and facing social exclusion. Beyond economic and geographic barriers, those suffering from the disease face discrimination and stigma, which constitute barriers to early diagnosis, treatment adherence, and full recovery. Objective: To explain, from the perspective of the ethics of care, the manifestations of discrimination against people with tuberculosis. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, SciELO, LILACS, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases between January 2024 and February 2025, using combinations of search terms in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. Discussion: Discrimination based on tuberculosis fragments the human experience and neglects the relational dimension of care. Stigma erodes patients’ autonomy and agency, manifesting itself in family, work, community, and institutional settings. The ethics of care offers tools to humanize care. Conclusions: Adopting the ethics of care in tuberculosis control programs involves moving beyond the individualistic biomedical approach and incorporating collective care, solidarity, and community participation as central pillars of health policies, in order to dismantle discriminatory practices and build a comprehensive, humanized, and healing response.
